How to Register For the Deceased Do Not Contact List
Publicado en April 13, 2022
Receiving marketing calls and emails on behalf of a deceased family member can add more stress and confusion.
Fortunately, the Deceased Do Not Contact (DDNC) List provides an easy way to get rid of unwanted calls, emails, texts, and letters.
So, What Exactly is The Deceased Do Not Contact List?
The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) has a service that removes the names and addresses of deceased persons from marketing lists.
Primarily, companies and non-profit organizations use the service to identify and remove deceased clients from their marketing campaigns.
This means they can know who to reach out to and who to avoid during their marketing efforts.
How to Sign Up for the Post-death Checklist
Signing up on the platform is fast and easy. You only need to:
- Collect all the necessary information
- Fill out the registration form.
- Submit the form and wait for it to take effect.
How Long Does It Take for DDNC To Become Effective?
The Direct Marketing Association gives organizations an updated DDNC list every month. As such, organizations and companies have to check and remove the names and details of the deceased from their database.
Generally, it takes about three months to stop marketing efforts targeting your loved ones. However, if an organization still contacts your loved one 30 days after registering on the platform, you can sue the company for violating the DMA’s rules.
What is Required to Sign Up for the List?
To register on the platform, you’ll require the following information:
- The deceased full names.
- The physical address.
- The date of death, including month and year.
- The deceased age at the time of death.
Besides the deceased information, you should also provide your details as follows:
- Your name.
- Your email address.
- How you are related to the deceased.
When Should You Add Your Loved One to the DDNC?
You can add your loved one anytime, although it is advisable to do it as soon as the death occurs.
Organizations take time to update their records, so the sooner you do it, the faster it will become effective.
Take Away
Losing a loved one is a painful moment. But with a post-death checklist, you can say goodbye to unwanted emails and calls. Visit the DMA’s website and sign up today.
